“The biggest surprise is encountered at the lodge which has comforts which could not be better”

We are a group of fishing friends from both Chile and Spain united by our love of “catch and release” fly fishing and we have been going around this beautiful country (Chile) each year from 1992.

In these travels over many years we have seen many marvelous areas with rivers and lakes of every type and many different lodges.

I can say that without a doubt that the Picacho Lodge in one of the most friendly places that I have encountered in my fishing travels.

The location of the lodge is far from civilization and the arrival by boat is one of the most attractive aspects.

However the biggest surprise is encountered at the lodge which has comforts which could not be better: extraordinarily warm and cozy and decorated with an exquisite taste.

The rooms are very comfortable, spacious and with a menu prepared with great imagination by the 2 chefs from the hotel tourism school of Chile who prepare splendid breakfasts and delicious dinners.

The scenery is a dream and has a lot of variety; you can fish in different rivers and lakes surrounded by nature that is bursting forth and beautiful, and that permits you to practice all forms of fishing. After an intense day of fishing there is no better relaxation than the hot tub where we exchange stories about the days fishing as we are enjoying a delicious pisco sour.

And what about the fishing ? We all thought that in the season we went in the middle of April (which was the end of the season) that there would be a decrease in the activity of the trout for dry fly fishing. However our fears were unfounded and we caught many good trout in large numbers – some of them more than 3 kilos (approx 6.5 pounds) both browns and rainbows. Everyone in the group had good fishing and we all were enthusiastic with the fishing experience.

I would not want to forget the most important thing – the human factor. We encountered there an exceptional group of persons led by Cristian Effa who were very efficient a guides full of assistance when one needed it and discrete when the situation required it. They interacted with us in a fine but respectful and formal manner. They definitely are an exceptional group both as guides and as human beings.

And now what is our group going to do for our next outing? This is a very easy decision and we are going to return for November-December of next year at the beginning of the season to the same lodge on the Picacho river. Without a doubt we can recommend this place where the meeting of the fishing, the natural environment, the personal service, and the quality of the facilities are difficult to find better anywhere else.

Visit the lodge and you won’t be disappointed!
